Fundamentally, Communications and Information Technology is about people. While the Technology industry, press and associated groupies engage in crescendos of appreciation over the latest advances, the real impact is when people are engaged and empowered by new technology.
This presentation will seek to outline Labor's approach to Information Policy, including the questions of:
- education and skills development;
- the role of government in an information society;
- the "new politics" required in the 21st century; and;
- societies responsibility to manage and ameliorate the side effects of change.
Also addressed will be the challenges facing Victorian public policy from a Labor perspective from the increasing globalism of many aspects of life, including the economy, social movements, & communications.
Of especial interest in this presentation will be the need to engage communities and the regions in Victoria to ensure that the Information Society is one which conforms to basic Australians values such as fairness and equality.
