As a response to the increasing costs and other limitations of paper based information, the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has developed a segmented database/email information service, Farmlink, which allows clients to profile their specific interests. Clients are then able to receive timely information by e-mail on their desired topics only. Farmlink is available for community networking and can assist in developing business partnerships.
Surveys conducted by DPI and others have found that increasing numbers of primary producers are connecting to the internet. As a result of Federal and State initiatives there are increased opportunities for training in the use of electronic communications in rural and remote communities.
Primary producers have expressed the need for current up-to-date information to assist them in their management decisions. They are interested in the latest climate, marketing and industry information. Farmlink provides the technology for primary producers to receive current information to assist them in their management decisions.
Farmlink currently has 5000 primary producer subscribers and is growing rapidly.
